JUNIORS AND WALLAS 2026:
KEY INFO & DATES

Our Juniors and Wallas welcome any all players, and we have teams playing in all age groups in Wallas (under 6s, under 8s and under 10s) and Juniors (under 12s and under 14s).

Unfortunately this year, despite exhaustive efforts, we are unable to field an under 16s team. This is a priority focus for our club in 2027.

We welcome and encourage boys and girls to play rugby and we are committed to ensuring our young players develop their personal and sporting skills, but most importantly have fun.

COME & TRY RUGBY SESSIONS:

Try Rugby Sessions are free skills sessions for players in Wallas age groups (Under 6 to Under 10). They are the perfect way to introduce a youngster to rugby, as they are focused on basic skills and fun. New and existing players are welcome. Try Rugby Sessions will be held on Fridays, from March 6 onward at 5pm.

JUNIORS & WALLAS:

The Juniors and Wallas seasons typically begin in early May and run through until approximately early September. There are breaks for school holidays and general byes on long weekends.

TRAINING:

Juniors will start training on Tuesday 3 March from 5-6.30pm, and will train on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Endeavour Oval. Wallas begin training on Friday 6 March as above at 5pm and will break for the Easter weekend and school holiday breaks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will you have Under 14 and Under 16 teams in 2026?

We will have an under 14s team, but unfortunately we are unable to field an under 16s team in 2026. Of course, we will also have multiple under 12s teams.

The Board of Directors has worked tirelessly in a bid to field a side but sadly it has not come to fruition. This will be approached a priority focus once again for 2027.

We have appointed Peter Roberts as coach for the under 14s team, a role he will undertake in conjunction with his Junior Director of Coaching role.

Anyone interested in playing in under 14s can contact Emus Junior President Matt Johnson for more information, or use the button above to register now.

What does Wallas and Juniors mean?

Wallas is our youngest available age groups - under 6s, under 8s and under 10s. They play gala days on Sundays, using heavily modified rules on smaller fields and with no scores recorded. Having fun is the goal.

Juniors are our age groups under 12s, under 14s and under 16s. They play full field, competitive games on Saturdays. Rules are modified for player safety, but are substantively typical rugby rules.

What age group should my child be playing in?

Age groups are based on the age a player turns in that calendar year. But, age groups are clustered into two-year bands. So if you have a child turning 9 or 10 in 2026, they will play in the under 10s.

What if I think my child should be in a different age group, for instance if they are small for their age?

There are rules in place to ensure all children play in the most appropriate age group for their age, but also their size and weight. Speak to your child's coaches or the club, as a 'size for age dispensation' form needs to be completed prior to registration.

When do Emus teams train and where?

Our Junior teams train on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Endeavour Oval, during the season. Wallas train on Friday evenings, also at Endeavour Oval.
